Coca Cola’s refreshes its iconic 1995 ‘Holidays Are Coming’ ad with a 2025 twist: The new ad is fully AI-generated

Coca Cola released its 2025 holiday ad, a nod to the 1995 'Holidays Are Coming' campaign. The new ad, like the 2024 one, is fully AI-generated.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Team of 5 AI specialists and “around 100 people worked on Coca Cola's new holiday campaign” according to the WSJ.

  • With a 30-day production timeline

  • Using a whopping 70,000 AI-generated video clips (how many prompts and retakes did that take?)

  • Strategic pivot to use only animated animal characters, perhaps to avoid last year's "uncanny valley" criticism of the AI-generated humans that felt 'soulless.'

The ad has that distinctive ‘fake-looking’ AI aesthetic that we've become familiar with. But this is the direction that companies are pushing the creatives teams to follow. The ship has sailed on resisting AI – nor should we, as creatives, resist new technological. Where would we be today if we said no to computers, digital cameras, or mobile phones (OK, don’t answer that last one). But the fact is that as technology advances and AI continue to learn, the quality of the output is bound to improve.

The big question: Will the AI-generated content eventually succeed in capturing hearts the same way human-made animations and films do? Can AI replicate the emotional connection we feel with human-created and human-centered stories? I guess time will tell—and not too long from now.

Watch the ad and decide for yourself.
